About Us
Swift Cycle Messengers is owned and operated by Thaddeus Smyda
and Matthew Cohen. Swift Cycle Messengers was created as a reaction to the lack
of quick service courier companies in Scranton. We realize that a business deal
can be made or broken in the span of 30 minutes, and it is our duty to guarantee
that traffic is not that determining factor. At Swift Cycle Messengers, we
guarantee that our couriers will keep every single transaction confidential.
Our business is to be sure that all of your time sensitive materials reach their
destination exactly when you wish them to, and in the most professional manner.
We use bicycles as our mode of transportation for a multitude of reasons: A bicycle is easy to maintain, the only fuel needed is food for the rider (no gas charges!), a bicycle can be locked to any light post or parking meter (no need to look for parking!), there are no harmful emissions from bikes, a bicycle can fit through the tight squeezes in traffic to avoid the long waits at stoplights, and a bicycle can be ridden all year round as long as the rider dresses appropriately.
During the past year of cycling in the City of Scranton, Matt realized that his mode of transportation was much more efficient than driving his car ever was. With the recent developments in Scranton, a bicycle is able to fit through the tight squeezes around the courthouse and pass through traffic with ease. The lack of need to spend money on gas or parking meters brought about the realization that a bicycle is also the most cost effective mode of transportation. Matt’s interest in cycling led to meeting other cyclists in the area, whom expressed interest in making money while doing what they loved to do most. At this point, Matt’s research on bicycle couriers began. A few calls were made, and it was soon found that there was no quick service, short range courier services available in the City of Scranton. A plan was set into motion to begin this business endeavor; the only thing needed was a partner with some business knowledge and the courage to make the leap!
Thaddeus Smyda was indeed that partner. Having come from a family with a history of owning numerous businesses, Thaddeus had the resources and knowledge to get Swift Cycle Messengers off the ground. After hearing Matt’s idea for this new type of business in Scranton, Thaddeus’ enthusiasm rose to new heights. Thaddeus began to use his bicycle as his primary mode of transportation as well and quickly noticed the difference in time efficiency through the city streets. After many hours spent researching all of the necessary components of the courier business world, Swift Cycle Messengers was born. When the skeptics ask us why we believe that we are necessary in a world filled with so much technology, we only have one response, “…because some things just can’t be faxed!”
